O-Ring Seals for Underwater Connectors

O-rings are the primary pressure-sealing element in every underwater connector — the elastomer ring compressed between the mating faces or in the connector groove provides the IP68-rated barrier that keeps seawater out of contact cavities and housings. Elastomers degrade through compression set, UV exposure, chemical attack and thermal cycling, so O-ring replacement is a critical scheduled maintenance operation. Kits are precision-moulded to AS568 or metric sizes, matched to specific connector series, and supplied with an O-ring lubricant sachet.

Key Design Features

  • Four compounds: EPDM (standard seawater service), Nitrile/NBR (oil-contaminated environments), Silicone (extreme low temperature), Viton/FKM (aggressive chemicals and high temperature).
  • Aerospace-grade tolerances: cross-section ±0.03 mm for the correct 20–25% squeeze ratio in connector grooves — under-size rings fail to seal, over-size rings prevent proper mating.
  • High-pressure options: harder compounds (Shore 80A–90A) with reinforced backup rings prevent extrusion at depths beyond 3,000 m; complete seal kits with backup rings and dielectric grease for 6,000 m-rated connectors.
  • Cross-referenced to your connector: quote the connector series or model (e.g. MCIL8M, BH6F, LPBH7F, BCR1508F) and we supply the matching dash sizes — no measurement needed.
  • Lubricant supplied: each kit includes an O-ring lubricant sachet; always lubricate before reinstallation — dry O-rings roll and extrude during mating, causing seal failure.
  • SubConn Compatible: replacement sizes match standard SubConn-style connector grooves across all series sold on this site.

Typical Applications

Scheduled O-ring maintenance for ROV connector systems, post mate-demate inspection and replacement, onboard ROV maintenance kits, subsea junction box refurbishment, and O-ring replacement after extended connector storage.

Notes for Selection

Never use generic O-rings — consumer-grade rings lack the material composition, tolerances and pressure testing required for subsea sealing, and a microscopic defect can cause catastrophic water ingress at depth. Specify EPDM for standard seawater service, nitrile for hydraulic-oil exposure on work-class vehicles, silicone for polar/cold-water applications, and Viton for chemical or high-temperature service. Always inspect O-rings before mating and discard any ring showing cracks, deformation or hardening.

Match your hardware automatically Quote your connector model or series (e.g. MCIL4M, BH8F, LPBH7F, BCR1508F, XSG-4-BCL) and we will cross-reference the correct locking sleeve, nut and washer or O-ring kit. Standard items ship from stock; custom materials (titanium, Inconel, special elastomers) available to order.
